Ruth Dugan

he is happy to paint your portrait, but don’t expect to hang it in a frame. Former Professor Ruth Dugan finds much joy in creating what she calls “portrait dolls” of famous people and entertainers. She gives the dolls to her models as gifts.

Dugan taught in the Psychology Department from 1964–1981. She “enjoyed every minute of it,” and enjoys the contact she still has with her former students. Many send cards to keep in touch, and one former student is a good friend and frequent visitor.

Because of her many years spent studying and teaching physiological psychology, Dugan is knowledgeable about the aging process. She is thankful for this understanding. “I know what is happening to me,” said Dugan.

Today, in addition to creating portrait dolls, Dugan regularly volunteers at the hospital and at the local library. She is proud of her three children, six grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. This summer Dugan joined her daughter on a trip to France, where her granddaughter is attending school.
