Pearl Kowalski
Chances are, if shes not on the courts, shes fighting
in one for changes. Retired professor Pearl Kowalski, an avid year-round
tennis player, is involved in state and national legislative issues
for both active and retired teachers. One of the major changes she
has fought for and won was getting dental health coverage for retired
educators.
Kowalski taught in the Health and Physical Education Department
from 1967 to 1986. Today she stays active by playing outdoor doubles
tennis five times a week as long as theres no snow on
the ground. Now she has more time for other activities such
as officiating girls field hockey, gardening and shopping
til she drops.
I believe activity maintains a quality of life, says
Kowalski. I think I behave much younger than my chronological
age.
Her lifelong passion for education didnt retire when she
did. A resident of Gloucester City, Kowalski remains active in the
Gloucester County Retired Educators Association, where she
serves as first vice president. She is also involved in the New
Jersey Retired Education Association and the National Education
AssociationRetired.
